Report About
Qardho Refugee Camps(Rain Impacts and Drough effect).
(Qardho, Oct
20,
2009 Ceegaag Online)
Qardho is the
districts headquarter for Karkaar region it has been
starving with prolonged drought for the past months. The
region got rains as a whole and specifically Qardho town got
many consecutive rains for about two weeks without stop
which caused the internally
displaced person suffer a lot, since they don’t have
permanent shelter and rains caused them to lost their
temporary makeshift houses and spend outside at the cold as
explained by a mum with 7 children just outside her
collapsed house. The proximate number of IDPs in the recent
assessment was 1000 families and an estimate of 505 families
lost their shelter; the most effected camps include Bulo
Qodax, Camp Shabelle, Tawakal and bullo faay.
Yesterday I visited Shabele
Refugee Camp and i Met The chairman of the Camp Ali
Olad Yousuf he Gave me Information about them"We are
Displaced from
Mogadishu and Area around it,main reasons include
Warscane and Felt insecurity,Now we Felt Stability but we
want Conservation Life like to help as food feeding,i want
to suggest donors to help us many ways " said Ali.
I tried to get many Data concern them Like:-
Shelter:They
initially had shelter made of carton and worn out clothes
with less quality sticks and when the rain fall all of them
went with the rain leaving nothing to shelter. Looking into
the humanitarian grounds we recommend urgent intervening of
the survivors by providing
plastic sheets.
All the non-food items were washed out by the
rains and they are missing to something to use as for now
Food:The IDPs
main food source was working for the locals and gets their
daily bread,
since now they are in open place and they don’t have a place
to shelter the children, they cant go out to look for the
family bill as a mother quotes "we use to go out to get our
living but now u can see we are all in an open place, we
cant move because the children may burn themselves".
